The Football League has confirmed that Saturday's abandoned match between Blackpool and Huddersfield will not have to be finished or replayed.

The match was stopped at 48 minutes on the clock after Blackpool supporters invaded Bloomfield Road's pitch and camped out in the centre circle in protest at chairman Karl Oyston.

The match was temporarily suspended for half an hour when referee Mick Russell was forced to take players from the both sets of sides off before confirmation came just after 2.30pm that the match had been abandoned.

Flares were set off and a banner reading 'Oyston Out' with a fan in a mobility scooter joining in after a few minutes of the protest, driving onto the pitch with his arm raised in the air.

Karl and his brother Owen have been the target of fan protests for the way in which they are running the club, with some fans throwing eggs and flares outside the ground earlier this month and on Friday, fans vandalised the club's stadium after the statue of club legend Stan Mortensen had been removed ahead Saturday's game.

The Football League statement said, "The Football League can confirm that Blackpool and Huddersfield Town will not be required to finish or re-play their Sky Bet Championship fixture that was abandoned after 48 minutes on Saturday.

"Having considered all of the relevant matters, it was felt that that asking the two clubs to play the match again would serve no justifiable purpose given the nature of Saturday's events and seeing as its result has no bearing on promotion or relegation issues.

"The Board of The Football League will consider the result of the match, and any other matters relating to it that are within its remit, at its next meeting on May 14. In doing so, it will take into the account the observations of both clubs.

"Any matters relating to crowd behaviour will be considered by the Football Association."
