England U21 manager Gareth Southgate has today named his squad for the game against Wales and upcoming Toulon Tournament in France.
The squad of 25 will represent the country in a European Qualifying match in Wales on Monday before flying out to France for the tournament, which will see them face some of the world’s best young players in at least four games, initially against Brazil, Korea, Colombia and Qatar.
Leicester City defender Liam Moore has been selected after an outstanding season which saw him lift the Championship title after breaking into the first-team set-up last year. Joining him in defence will be Middlesbrough centre back Ben Gibson, who has recently attracted interest from Newcastle.
Watford goalkeeper Jonathon Bond will join the squad and look to compete with Stoke City ‘keeper Jack Butland for the number 1 spot in the team.
Brighton and Hove Albion striker Solly March will look to earn his first international cap whilst his teammate Jake Forster-Caskey has also been selected.
Charlton midfielder Jordan Cousins and Reading winger Jordan Obita have been included in the squad, as has Burnley striker Danny Ings, who was recently named Championship Player of the Season.
Championship new-boys Norwich and Fulham have also had players selected for the squad, with Nathan Redmond from The Canaries and The Cottagers’ promising striker Cauley Woodrow both selected, the latter of whom will look to earn his first cap after breaking into the first-team at Craven Cottage this season.
