According to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay, Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s £50k-a-week wage is making his move to Leeds United difficult.

Reports broke last week that Leeds were looking to sign the striker from Hamburg, but the Sky Bet Championship outfit have made no progress in their attempts over the last seven days.

According to the latest reports, Lasogga’s mammoth wages are proving to be a stumbling block, as Leeds would want Hamburg to pay at least 50% in any potential loan deal.

Leeds remain keen to add a striker to their squad between now and the end of the summer, as they look for an alternative to Chris Wood in attack.

Lasogga has played his entire career in the Bundesliga, and despite a difficult last 12-months, the striker’s record in Germany’s top-flight is still impressive.

The 25-year-old has scored 34 league goals in 128 appearances, including 14 from just 22 appearances during the 2013/14 campaign.

Whilst Leeds are looking to add Lasogga to their squad, a number of other clubs are looking to lure Wood away from Elland Road this summer.

Leeds have already rejected two bids from Burnley, as they stand firm over the striker who scored 30 goals across all competitions last season.

So far this season, the New Zealand international has scored once in three appearances.

The Verdict

Leeds will almost certainly not be paying Lasogga a similar wage to what he is currently earning in Germany, and for any potential deal to happen, the striker will have to take a significant pay cut.

The German striker would be a good addition alongside Wood, with Leeds too reliant on the New Zealand international at this current time and Caleb Ekuban not yet handed a proper opportunity.

Leeds’ supporters will be hopeful their club can negotiate a deal to get Lasogga to Elland Road, or a striker with similar abilities to support Wood in the Championship.
