Footage hints at fall-out between Burnley teammates over international flashpoint

Footage suggests Burnley teammates Connor Roberts and Wout Weghorst appeared to fall out when their national teams faced off on Wednesday, as per a Daily Mail report.

Weghorst netted a last minute for the Netherlands in a 2-1 Nations League victory over Wales, who Roberts played the full 90 minutes of that game.

Having joined Burnley back in January, Weghorst was unable to prevent the club suffering relegation from the Premier League to the Championship, with the striker scoring just twice in 20 appearances.

As a result, it seems the fact that Weghorst was able to make such a telling impact for the Netherlands on Wednesday, did not go down well with Roberts.

According to this report, images have emerged after the game of the defender approaching the Dutch international, before asking: “Why didn’t you do that for Burnley?”

After initially ignoring the approach of his club teammate, Weghorst apparently then turns to Roberts and tells him: “This isn’t about Burnley, shut up”.

Weghorst has already claimed that he will not be playing for Burnley next season, after apparently agreeing he would not play in the Championship when he moved to Turf Moor.

Turkish duo Fenerbahce and Besiktas have both linked with moves for the striker recently, with a loan move potentially on the cards.

The Verdict

This does not give a good impression of what he been going on behind the scenes at Burnley recently.

Roberts appears rather irate with the way he approaches Weghorst in the footage, suggesting he was far from impressed with the striker’s performances at Turf Moor.

That is something that will not have helped Burnley during their struggles last season, and Weghorst’s response appears to show little concern for that, which is unlikely to go down well with the club’s fans.

As a result, given the tension that has been revealed here, you do get the feeling that a move away from Burnley for Weghorst, could actually be a sensible idea for all concerned.
