After securing their promotion back to the Championship in midweek, Daniel Stendel will be looking forward to the summer as he looks to prepare his Barnsley squad for yet another season.

The German has been a resounding success since taking the reins at Oakwell, with his side looking comfortable in every area of the pitch on their march towards automatic promotion.

Up top, they have been as clinical as can be, whilst at the back, they have been simply incredible, and boast the best defensive record in the league after a string of solid performances.

Liam Lindsay and Ethan Pinnock are likely to receive the majority of plaudits, and rightly so after an array of commanding performances in central defence.

But one man that is likely to go unnoticed despite a magnificent season for the Tykes, is goalkeeper Adam Davies, who is currently facing an uncertain future at Oakwell.

The 26-year old has been a regular for Stendel this season, but with his contract set to expire at the end of next month, the shot-stopper recently offered a cryptic update on his future in Yorkshire.

Barnsley fans will have definitely been hoping for a more concrete answer from Davies, but his response suggests that his future with the club in serious doubt, and on the face of things, it would be a big blow to lose him.

Of course, the club will look to bring in a replacement, and there is every chance that a new goalkeeper could come in and do a better job, although you will struggle to find a goalkeeper that has such a good understanding with his defence than Davies.

Nevertheless, if Davies were to leave, then life goes on, and Barnsley are the masters of coping without their key players.

Plenty thought that when Brad Potts left in January, then their bid for promotion would fall to pieces - the midfielder had scored seven goals and produced six assists for the Tykes, before his move to Preston North End.

But even then, the likes of Alex Mowatt and Cameron McGeehan stepped up to the plate, paying testament to what a good group of players Barnsley have at their club.

If they were to lose Davies, then they have previously proven that they can adapt to major setbacks...
