Swansea City have contacted Arsenal regarding a potential move for Folarin Balogun, according to Football Insider.

Steve Cooper will be looking to strengthen his side's already impressive attacking options this month, as they look to cement their place in the upper echelons of the Championship table.

A move for Southampton's Michael Obafemi has broke down, with the Swans now turning their interest towards Arsenal's Folarin Balogun.

Balogun has made five first-team appearances under Mikel Arteta this season, with all of those coming in cup competitions.

The 19-year-old has scored twice in the UEFA Europa League, in wins over Molde and Dundalk in the group stage.

But a loan move away from the Emirates could now be in the offing for Balogun, with Swansea reportedly making contact with Arsenal regarding a potential loan deal until the end of the season.

Balogun was the subject of £5million bids from Brentford last season, with Arsenal rejecting those offers for the striker whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

The Verdict

This an interesting transfer development.

Swansea have been one of the more exciting teams to watch in the Championship this season, and in Andre Ayew and Jamal Lowe, they have two potent goalscorers.

Steve Cooper is an excellent coach, and if Arsenal are looking to develop Balogun, then he'd definitely be the right manager for him.

Loans have worked really well for Swansea in recent years, with Morgan Gibbs-White, Rhian Brewster and Marc Guehi thriving in South Wales.
