Flynn Downes has said that he's 'buzzing' to have completed his move to Swansea City.

The club confirmed that the 22-year-old midfielder had completed a move to the Championship club on a four-year deal after moving for an undisclosed fee from Ipswich Town.

Downes is a product of the Tractorboys' youth academy and went on to make 99 appearances at first team level for the club before making his move to the second tier of English football.

But discussing his move to Swansea the central midfielder says that a conversation with Russell Martin convinced him that switching to the Swans would be 'a dream move'.

Speaking to Swansea City's official website, Downes said: “I am buzzing to be here.

“It has been a bit of a whirlwind, I got a phone call about a week ago and it has come together quickly.

“It’s a massive club and I cannot wait to get going.

“I spoke to the gaffer, and I just liked the way he came across, the players they have got and it all just added up for me.

“The style of play massively appeals to me, I played against the gaffer’s side with Ipswich last year and I think we only touched the ball about four times during the entire game.

“So, when this came up, and I knew he was going to be here it was a dream move.

“The way he wants to play football appeals to me massively.

“I also know Gilly (technical development coach) from my time at Ipswich, I loved working with him at Ipswich. He is a top man, and that was also a part of my decision because he is a familiar face, but it was also down to speaking to the gaffer.”

The verdict

There's no doubt that this is a big opportunity for Flynn Downes.

The midfielder showed glimpses of real quality during his time at Ipswich Town but supporters might say that they didn't quite see it often enough for their liking.

After moving to Swansea the hope will be that he can show that sort of form on a more consistent basis.

At the age of 22 there's plenty of time for the player to improve but there's no doubt that he'll be hoping to hit the ground running under Russell Martin.
