The Football League has got some of the brightest young players in the country just waiting for their big moment and itching to make it to the top level.

Only over the summer we saw James Maddison, Ryan Sessegnon and David Brooks make it into the Premier League one way or another and that will inspire the next crop to try and follow suit.

However, with the top flight also possessing some of the world's finest players, it can be hard for young English footballers to get their break.

That, then, is why clubs like Crewe Alexandra are so important to the development of these stars of tomorrow and it seems as though they've potentially got another coming off of the production line.

In our first of a regular weekly series, then, FLW's One to Watch this time around is the Railwaymen's Charlie Kirk:

Crewe have a famed record of bringing through good young players and then letting them go on to play at the very highest level.

The likes of Danny Murphy, Nick Powell and Dean Ashton have all passed through and there seems plenty more to come in the next few years to say the very least.

Kirk appears at the head of the current crop, then, with him making his debut in 2016 and going on to so far make well over 60 appearances for the club.

He's not 21-years-old until Christmas Eve of this year but it looks as though he's starting to really kick on with the goals starting to flow from midfield as of last year.

He hit his first five of his senior career in 2017/18 and would appear to have increased his motivation to score goals over the summer - fresh after signing a new deal towards the end of the last campaign.

He scored in the demolition of Morecambe on the opening day of this season and looks set to be an increasingly key cog in the team.

There will, of course, be down moments and patches of poor form - even the very best young players go through it - but at Crewe he is at a club that has seen that countless times.

Indeed, they'll know exactly how to treat him when that happens and, crucially, get him back to his best which, at the moment, looks like it could deliver a considerably impressive career.

Fleet of foot and adding end product to his game, Kirk is undoubtedly one to watch this season.
