The end of the Championship season is approaching and while some will look on it as a season of pride, others will be keen to forget it as soon as possible.

Some players, usually those in teams fighting at the bottom, have had far from spectacular seasons and they will want to forget this one and get ready for the next.

A lot of factors can contribute towards a poor season and unfortunately for these players, they have been victim of a number of these factors, making their seasons some of their most forgettable in their careers.

Some of these players will look for a fresh start as they look to recover from this season, while others - some of them not by choice - will be testing themselves in a lower division.

Here are FootballLeagueWorld's WORST Championship Team of the Season, as voted for by our writers!

GK: Ben Amos (Bolton Wanderers)

Ben Amos

25-year-old Ben Amos was very highly-rated as a youngster at Manchester United and joined Bolton in the summer on a permanent deal after impressing on loan at the end of last season.

He has impressed in a number of loan spells previously in the Championship but this season has definitely been one to forget for the Trotters' keeper as the club look destined to be relegated to League One following a disastrous campaign.

Should he stay at the Macron, Amos will be playing in League One next season and he will hope to kick-start his career again after this disappointing season.

RB: Scott Wooton (Leeds United)

Another graduate of Manchester United's esteemed academy, Wooton joined Leeds in 2013 and despite failing to make much of an impact, this has been his worse season with the club so far.

Despite making 22 appearances this season for the club, the 24-year-old has failed to impress and this led to calls from fans for him to be dropped and even sold by manager Steve Evans.

Evans has defended the right-back on a number of occasions, especially after particularly poor displays, but there is no doubt that this has been a season to forget for Wooton.

CB: Danny Collins (Rotherham United)

collins44

A vastly experienced centre-back with plenty of experience in England's top two divisions, Rotherham fans could have been forgiven for thinking that Collins would be an astute signing when he joined the club this summer.

However, it just hasn't worked out for the 35-year-old and although he has played 26 times for the Millers this season, his best days look well and truly behind him.

Collins will probably be looking for a new club in the summer after it will be a shock if he finds himself playing Championship football next season.

CB: Richard Stearman (Fulham)

stearman66

28-year-old Stearman was signed by then Fulham boss Kit Symons as the man to help shore up the Cottagers' leaky defence, and with a reported seven-figure fee he should have done a lot better than he has done.

Fulham have conceded an incredible 66 goals this season - only the bottom two clubs have conceded more - and Stearman, as an expensive, experienced signing must take some of the blame for this.

Whether Slavisa Jokanovic wants to keep the former Wolves and Leicester defender in his ranks for next season remains to be seen, but he will have to improve drastically to prove his worth,

LB: Danny Fox (Nottingham Forest)

fox455

A Scotland international left-back with previous appearances for Celtic, Everton and Southampton would excite most fans by their pedigree, but Fox has failed to live up to those standards.

He has made just four appearances for the Reds despite a depleted squad due to a transfer embargo placed upon them in the summer, he has failed to impress even in this games.

Given the financial situation at Forest, they will likely to be trying to ship out the 29-year-old, but on recent performances that may be difficult.

RM: Sammy Ameobi (Cardiff City)

ameobiiii

The 23-year-old winger joined Cardiff on a season-long loan deal in the summer as he looked to start fulfilling his potential.

However, after a decent start to life with Russell Slade's side, Ameobi's performances have dipped and he has made little impact at the Cardiff City Stadium this season, with just one goal and three assists in thirty-five games.

It is a second failed loan spell in the Championship for the winger, but he will be hopeful to have another crack at it with his hometown club, Newcastle, next season should they go down.

CM: Darren Pratley (Bolton Wanderers)

pratley

In what has been a disastrous campaign for Bolton Wanderers, on and off the field, their captain has definitely failed to lead by example.

One of the higher earners at the club, the 30-year-old has failed to justify the wages he earns for the club and although he cannot be blamed for issues off the field, his performances on them have done little to lighten Trotters' fans moods.

With his contract not expiring until 2018, he looks likely to stay with the club but Bolton will demand much better displays from the former Swansea midfielder.

CM: Neil Danns (Bolton Wanderers)

danns

Pratley's midfield partner joins him on this list after a dreadful season for the Guyana international, scoring just two claiming no assists in 30 games this season.

Like another team mate in this list, Ben Amos, he impressed when he was on loan at club under Dougie Freedman but has failed to live up to expectations after signing permanently, particularly this season.

He will hope to have the opportunity to prove his worth next season with the club in League One, but the club's new manager will be mindful of his form this season.

LM: Will Buckley (Leeds United & Birmingham City)

buckleyyyy

Two loan spells in the Championship this season promised a lot for the former Brighton winger, but his poor form continues.

A hugely impressive winger at the Seagulls, he joined Sunderland in 2014 but has failed to make an impact at the Stadium of Light and was sent out on loan to Leeds and Birmingham.

Despite a goal on his home debut for the Blues, he has failed to make an impact and he'll go back to Wearside at the end of the season, wondering why his career has gone so far downhill.

ST: Gary Madine (Bolton Wanderers)

madineee

The fourth Bolton player on this list is former Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine who, despite being the club's top scorer with 6, has had a poor season at the Macron.

There was a lot of pressure around him when he joined the club given that Neil Lennon didn't have another out-and-out striker with experience, but his displays have done little to convince Bolton fans that he is up to the task of leading the line.

With a year left on his contract, he will likely to playing for the Trotters next season as it is difficult to imagine a queue of clubs weighing up a move.

ST: Simon Makienok (Charlton Athletic)

Like Bolton, Charlton have had a dreadful season on and off the pitch but their summer loan signing, Simon Makienok, has failed to impress in over 30 games this season.

The 6ft 7in Dane has found himself down the pecking order at the Valley, and while this is partly due to the form of teenage sensation Ademola Lookman, its also down to Makienok's dismal displays.

With six caps for his country and signing from Palermo, the 25-year-old's displays have been nothing short of a massive disappointment.
