Sheffield Wednesday left-back Morgan Fox has been subject to growing interest from Championship clubs as his contract at Hillsborough runs down.

The Wales international has been an important part of Garry Monk’s side as they push to consolidate their place in the Championship play-off places this season. The Owls currently sit in fifth place as the race for the top six continues to stay immensely tight.

Having started the season as a bit-part member of the squad under Lee Bullen, Fox has seen a lot more consistency in his appearances under Garry Monk. He is currently on a run of 11 successive first-team starts as Monk looks to field as settled a back four as he can, to build momentum heading into the New Year.

However, Fox’s contract is set to expire in the summer and there is little indication that he has been offered a new one as of yet, and this has sparked interest from Championship rivals Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion, among others, according to TEAMtalk.

With this interest being revealed, leaving Fox with a decision to make, we take a look at the three paths he could take in January…

Renew his Sheffield Wednesday contract

The simplest option for him Fox and one that adds to his continuity at the minute is to renew his contract at Hillsborough beyond this season.

With the deal set to expire in the summer, it would mean he has to take the gamble of moving to a club where he may not enjoy his time there, and his performances might drop due to a change in environment.

Staying at Hillsborough would be the safest option for Fox, as he is finally settled under Garry Monk and turning in some very impressive performances.

Sign for Nottingham Forest

Signing for Forest would present both with a solid move as Fox would be joining a club that is not exactly a step up at the moment, but could have more upward mobility due to more stability off the pitch.

Forest also look a solid shout for the play-offs this season so Fox would be moving to a side with very similar prospects going forward.

Moving away also could be Fox’s smartest move because it seems unlikely that Wednesday are going to place their faith in him with a new contract, so Forest could be a club more welcome to him if they show they want him in their side.

Can you remember the Owls' last 16 Boxing Day results?

Sign for West Bromwich Albion

The lucrative signing for Fox would be to move to West Brom who are currently flying high at the top of the table and are 12 points clear of third place.

The Baggies look like the strongest side in the division currently and near certainties to clinch promotion to the Premier League, which could be a very tempting part of the deal to see him opt for them over Forest.

The prospect of playing Premier League football will be a very luring aspect of the deal here and it presents Fox with his best chance of playing in the top flight.
