‘Flint next please’ – Middlesbrough fans discuss latest addition to the squad

Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Sunderland midfielder Paddy McNair.

The 20-cap Northern Ireland international pens a four-year deal after Boro and Sunderland agreed an undisclosed fee for his services.

BBC Sport believe that the fee could rise to more than £5m.

The former Manchester United academy product played 24 Premier League matches for the Red Devils before his summer 2016 switch to Sunderland.

In an injury-hit two years with the Black Cats, McNair featured 28 times, including 16 games last year where he scored five goals.

The 23-year-old ended the season well, netting four in five matches, but he could not prevent Sunderland from relegation.

Boro beat off a number of clubs in the top two divisions to land the versatile midfield man, who can also play in defence, as their first summer signing.

Here are how a section of the Middlesbrough fans on social media reacted to the arrival of Sunderland’s McNair.
