Former player Stephen Elliott believes that Sunderland winger Aiden McGeady should be in line for a recall to the Ireland squad, but it is fair to say his views are not shared universally on Twitter.

The winger has been in good form for the Black Cats, scoring and creating goals for fun as they storm to a 15 game unbeaten run. They're second in the League One table, facing a possible FA Cup third round tie if they overcome Walsall next week and are into the second round of the EFL Trophy.

They're certainly setting the pace expected of them following their relegation, with McGeady a star performer. He's scored six in seven for Jack Ross' side including three in his last three games.

That has prompted former Sunderland and Hearts striker Elliott, last seen playing for Morpeth Town, to take to Twitter suggesting he should be recalled to the Eire squad by Mick McCarthy. Whilst it might look like a good idea given his recent form, his opinion hasn't gone down well with the fans who have replied on Twitter.

Here's the best of their replies.
