A daily round-up of all the comings and goings in the Sky Bet Championship, League 1 and League 2.
Sheffield Wednesday pulled off a real coup by signing former Sunderland and Coventry goalkeeper Keiren Westwood on a two-year contract after he was released by the Black Cats. This move all but confirmed the news that Chris Kirkland will not be signing a new contract at Hillsborough and will move on in the summer.
Ipswich have replaced left back Aaron Cresswell, who recently moved to West Ham on a five year deal, by signing Norwegian full back Jonathan Parr from Crystal Palace. Parr was released by the Eagles after three years at the London club.
The Tom Ince saga has finally come to an end after he signed a two year deal with Premier League outfit Hull City. Having had talks earlier on in the summer with Inter Milan, Ince opted to stay in England in what I believe to be a wise move at this moment in his career. The most comparable move from the past to this would be Dale Jennings going from Tranmere to Bayern Munich. Jennings now plays for Barnsley, which shows that going for the fame and the money isn’t always the best option, especially when a player is so young.
An odd transfer completed today was Daniel Tozser moving on a two year loan deal to Watford, with an option to buy at the end of the loan, only a week after signing a two year deal with Parma. Tozser rejoins the Hornets after spendng the second half of last season on loan at Vicarage Road.
Finally, Blackburn striker David Goodwillie sealed a move back to Scotland with Aberdeen, signing a one year deal with the Dons. After impressing early on in his career in the SPL with Dundee United, Goodwillie moved to Blackburn in 2011 but since then has only managed to score eight times in 61 games and a move back to the safe haven of the SPL is a good move for all parties involved.
Only one transfer in league one today which was the signing of Charlton striker Jordan Cook by Walsall. After top scorer Craig Westcarr moved to Portsmouth, Cook will have big shoes to fill as Westcarr hit 18 goals last season.
Bradford left back James Meredith ended speculation about his future after signing a one year deal with the Bantams.
Portsmouth further bolstered their squad for the coming season with the addition of Crystal Palace youngster Alex Wynter on a season long loan deal.
AFC Wimbledon signed experienced left back Jack Smith following his release by Millwall. Smith has over 250 games under his belt and is a very good signing, especially at League 2 level.
Dagenham and Redbridge defender Luke Wilkinson joined recently promoted Luton Town for an undisclosed fee. Wilkinson joins defenders Paul Connolly and Andy Drury as John Still looks to sure up his defence prior to the upcoming season.
