It's fair to say that Southampton have had their fair share of players that have gone on to make a name for themselves away from St Mary's. 

The likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Adam Lallana and Gareth Bale have also moved to more prestigious clubs in recent years, so it's clear to see that Southampton have got a good eye for spotting talent early on.

Mings spent eight years with Southampton's academy, before moving to Bristol Rovers in 2009.

The defender has since gone on to make remarkable improvements, and now finds himself playing on a regular basis in the Premier League with Aston Villa.

Mings is now also involved in the England senior team.

Wise started out with Southampton, but left the club after falling out with manager Lawrie McMenemy.

He then moved to Wimbledon in 1985, and went on to play a key role for them as they won the FA Cup in the 1987/88 season.

It was certainly a case of the one that got away for Southampton.

The goalkeeper is another player that started with Southampton's academy, but din't feature for their first team.

He signed for Ipswich Town in 2003, but is now playing his football with Rotherham United in League One, as they battle to try and return to the Championship under the management of Paul Warne.

Gape came through the Southampton academy, and made his first team debut in the Premier League for the Saints as a late substitute against Everton.

That was his only appearance though, and he Wycombe Wanderers on loan in 2017, a deal which became permanent after he made a good impression.

He has gone on to be a regular for the Chairboys, and will be hoping that he can play his part in their promotion bid this season in League One.

Ranger has had his off-the-field problems in the past, but spent a year with Southampton's academy team in the 2007/08 season.

He then moved to Newcastle United, where he went on to feature for their first team over a four-year spell with the Magpies.

His last spell in football was with Southend United, although he hasn't played a senior game of football since having his contract terminated in January 2018.
