Sheffield Wednesday could be set for an interesting few weeks ahead, as they look to make the necessary additions to their squad.

The Owls are currently sat 21st in the Championship table, and are only outside of the relegation zone on goal difference after 23 matches in this year's campaign.

Football League World's Sheffield Wednesday fan Paul Reynolds has given us FIVE players that his side should target before the January transfer window reaches a conclusion.

An Owl for six years, one player I think Wednesday should sign is former player Sam Hutchinson. Having left The Owls in the summer after being frozen out by Garry Monk, Hutchinson has subsequently had his contract at Cypriot side Pafos FC terminated.

This looked like a deal that would definitely happen under Tony Pulis’ stewardship as the Welshman spoke very highly of Hutchinson in the press but with Pulis being sacked it now seems less likely.

Hutchinson would make great back up for the injury prone Luongo in midfield and can also be deployed at centre-back and right-back which would be ideal since Wednesday are short of cover in these areas.

Sheffield Wednesday Player of the Year in the 2018/19 season while on loan from Chelsea, Michael Hector signed a permanent deal at Fulham last year.

Following the Cottagers promotion to the Premier League, Hector has struggled for minutes and Fulham might be willing to let the centre-back go out on loan.

Wednesday recently cut short the loan of fellow defender Aden Flint which will free up a loan position in the squad and former fan favourite Hector could be the perfect man for the job should Fulham want to loan him out.

A player a few Championship sides seem to have tabs on is Plymouth Argyle’s Luke Jephcott. Wednesday have really struggled going forward this season so a couple of new strikers need to be on the shopping list for January as we try and avoid the drop.

The 20-year-old has bagged 14 goals in 21 appearances for Plymouth so far this season and a young, hungry striker could be the perfect signing for a Wednesday side struggling for goals.

A player Wednesday are linked with, Gnanduillet has recently been released by Turkish club Altay SK so it is a move I could see happening.

He hasn’t ever played Championship football so would be a bit of an unknown quantity but on a free transfer the 6’4” striker could at least offer something different off the bench.

Wednesday are short on full back options at the moment and could do a lot worse than bringing in Scotland international right-back Stephen O’Donnell from Motherwell.

O’Donnell joined Motherwell in the summer on a short-term deal and has a few Championship sides sniffing around his signature.

With Scotland qualifying for the Euros in the summer, O’Donnell will be eager to put in some good performances and will already be familiar with a few of the players in the Wednesday squad so a swoop for O’Donnell could be a good move for all parties.
