Huddersfield Town will be looking to put together a positive run of results in the New Year under the management of Carlos Corberan.

The Terriers are currently sat 13th in the Championship table after their opening 23 matches of this year's campaign, and will be hoping they can mount a challenge for a top-six finish this term.

Football League World's Huddersfield Town supporter Graeme Rayner has given us FIVE players that he thinks the club should target in the January transfer window.

Find out who they are, on the next page...

My first choice is in an area many Town fans may feel we don’t need to recruit – central midfield. On paper, we have a lot of options there – Jonathan Hogg is enjoying a new lease of life, but is 32 and does have some limitations.

Carel Eiting (on loan from Ajax) shows flashes of brilliance but is inconsistent. Lewis O’Brien has struggled to find the form he had last season that saw him win Player of the Year, and is strongly linked with a move to Burnley.

Alex Vallejo has barely featured since singing on a free and Juninho Bacuna is woefully inconsistent, plus seems unable to pin down one position as his best. Town need a solid option in midfield.

I’d approach Aston Villa to try and take Henri Lansbury on loan – he’s only featured in the EFL Cup and is not named in their 25 man Premier League Squad. His abilities and experience will tick a lot of boxes, and he’s out of contract in the summer.

Alternatively, but less realistically, I’d see if a cheeky loan bid for Danny Drinkwater was an option – he’s been at the club before and the most productive thing he’s done this season is kick a 16 year old up in the air for two footing him.

My second choice would be Tom Lees from Sheffield Wednesday.

Out of contact in the summer, Lees is a capable and experienced centre-half who would fulfil a real need there – we have injuries to club captain Christopher Schinlder, Richrd Stearman and Tommy Elphick, leaving Naby Sarr as our only experienced option.

Sarr blows hot and cold – hero one week, villain the next. We have youth coming through but Lees would stead the shop, I think, and needn’t be expensive with just six months left on his current deal.

He’s in good form and could slot straight into the side, and is a proven leader having been captain at Wednesday until recently.

Next up, I’ve opted for Sam Cosgrove at Aberdeen. He would not be cheap but, similarly, wouldn’t break the bank. Aberdeen accepted £2.7m for him in the summer be he opted not to move to Guingamp in France.

Tall, powerful, good in the air, capable with both feet and a proven goal scorer in the SPL, Cosgrove has managed 47 goals in 99 appearances for Aberdeen, including six in eight appearances in the Europa League. His contract has 18 months to run, so a fee of around £2.5m would work, and it feels relatively low risk for a 24-year-old.

He would be required to graft in our current system, but the prospect of him feeding off of crosses from the rejuvenated Mbenza on one side and the excellent Harry Toffolo on the other is potentially very exciting.

My fourth option is in midfield, and is a blast from the past, despite only being 23.

Izzy Brown is on loan at Sheffield Wednesday from Chelsea but it’s widely predicted they will recall him this month and farm him out elsewhere, similar to what happened four years ago – that season he was recalled from Rotherham and joined David Wagner’s Huddersfield side, where he scored five in 21 games, with one assist.

He started in the play-off final. Since then his career has been hampered by injuries but aged just 23, he could give a creative spark and midfield goal threat we lack.

His contract at Chelsea expires in the summer, so a loan deal with a possible view to a permanent deal (or even a guaranteed modest fee) might work. As an added interest factor, he played under Carlos Corberan in Leeds Under-23s while on loan and recovering from injury there.

Finally, my wild card option is Lincoln Corrêa dos Santos. Over the Christmas period it was rumoured that Town were interested in this 20 year old striker from Flamengo.

Capped at Under-20 level, he has been rumoured to be the next Lewandowski. He has played in the South American equivalent of the Champions League and has been being scouted by both Madrid sides, Barcelona, Man Utd and Juventus.

With the changes to transfer rules due to Brexit, this market may be more attractive for English clubs, even at Championship level, and rumours of an 18-month loan deal with a possible guaranteed fee have certainly got the folk of Huddersfield wondering if Lincoln might be popping into Merrie England for a hot beef and gravy sandwich any time soon.

At just 20, he already has 49 club appearances and has been capped at U17 and U20 level by Brazil.
