In League Two, there is a lot of underrated talent, and this summer there are going to be some players that fans will be hoping don't leave to ply their trade in the leagues above.

Here's a look at five players that could make a step up this summer....

Shay McCartan - Accrington Stanley

Northern Irishman McCartan has spent four years at Accrington following his release from Burnley as a teenager.

He has established himself as not only a regular in Stanley's first team, but is one of their star men.

He reached double figures in the league for the first time ever, hitting the target 11 times in League Two, a stand-out goal and performance coming away at promoted Doncaster Rovers in February.

His ability to evade many a defence in League Two is something that has caused many problems for oppositions this season, and a step up might easily be made by the man from Newry.

Luke Berry - Cambridge United

Local lad Berry returned to Cambridge United after a season with Barnsley, which garnered 31 appearances, but just the one goal in 2014/15.

In his two spells with his hometown club, he has scored 59 goals from the centre of midfield, 22 of which came in a remarkable 2016/17 season for Berry. A four-goal haul against League One Coventry City in the FA Cup showed what Berry can do against higher opposition and he would be able to adapt very quickly to life in a higher tier.

He might even be able to make a step up to Championship level, again with Barnsley as they are set to lose more of their key men this summer.

The U's will do well to keep Berry this summer for sure.

Ollie Watkins - Exeter City

The EFL's Young Player of the Season this term has shone in his breakthrough year.

The man from Devon has earned a lot of praise from fellow players and other managers alike with his blistering performances, as he helped the Grecians to reach the Play-Off final this time around.

He won the February League Two Player of the Month award after helping Exeter to embark on a marvellous turn around, which saw them turn from relegation certs to play-off contenders in just 10 games.

He is attracting interest from up and down the country, which is no surprise given that he is still only 21 and has followed in the footsteps of Dele Alli in winning the Young Player of the Season award, and he will be one to watch in the coming years that is for sure.

Jamal Blackman - Wycombe Wanderers (on loan from Chelsea)

England youth international Blackman was one of many Chelsea youngsters out on loan this season, but he has impressed whilst at Adams Park this season. H

e quickly established himself as the Chairboys' first choice stopper, putting in a set of commanding performances, including a string of penalty saves this season that gave Wycombe an outside chance of reaching the play-offs.

He returns to Stamford Bridge after a very successful loan spell on a personal level, and will now surely look to push himself further and have a go at performing consistently at a higher level too.

It has been a successful season for many of Chelsea's loan stars this year, now Blackman must look to further himself if he is to get anywhere near the Blues' first team in the future.

John Akinde - Barnet

Akinde is a man who will always score goals, and score a lot of them too.

The imposing striker has hit over 20 goals in each of his three seasons with the Bees, and he is a player that causes a massive threat in more ways than one, whenever he is on the attack.

He is powerful in the air and quick with his feet, able to hold up play, as well as find space to put the ball away too.

At 27, he is the oldest of the five mentioned, but that shouldn't mean that anything is taken away from Akinde, who really needs another big break after spells at Bristol City, Crawley Town and Portsmouth only mustered up two goals.

However, it is at The Hive where he has finally found his feet in the Football League, and now is more ready than ever to finally make the a leap up the EFL.
