After an extremely impressive season thus far, Leeds United remain strong favourites to gain promotion to the Premier League for the first time in fifteen years.

Marcelo Bielsa's men are back on track in the Sky Bet Championship - a run of two straight defeats threatened to ruin Leeds' bid for automatic promotion, but after a comfortable 2-0 win over Derby County last Friday, the Whites remain at the top of the table, four points clear of the play-off places.

They are yet to bring anyone in this transfer window, but have already started planning for next season, let alone this season - with reports claiming that Leeds, as well as Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Fulham, are interested in signing USA international Gyasi Zardes in the summer.

The 27-year old has been on fire across the pond, and here, in our FLW Spotlight, we take a look at Leeds' summer transfer target in further detail, after an impressive season in the MLS.

Zardes has been a relevation in the MLS over the years, and has been known as a renowned goalscorer over in the USA for LA Galaxy and the Columbus Crew. The towering forward, after taking an average of 2.6 shots per game, scored 20 goals in 36 games for the latter last season, and ended up as one of the leading scorers in the league.

Standing at 6-f00t-2, Zardes would certainly add a different dimension to what Leeds have up top, and would offer something that the likes of Kemar Roofe and Tyler Roberts offer to the United front-line. He won an average of 2.3 aerial duels per game last term, and is a real nuisance for defenders, having drawn an average of 1 foul per game.

He may be a real threat when leading the front-line, but when dropping back to get more involved, Zardes is also an interesting option to have. He made an average of 13.3 passes per game, and accrued a pass success rate of 72.5% in the MLS.

Regardless of what division Leeds find themselves in next season, the summer acquisition of Zardes could be an inspired one, that, if all goes well, could see them achieve a secure finish in the top flight.
