A number of Birmingham City fans have been bemoaning Aitor Karanka’s decision to continue playing Lukas Jutkiewicz up front on his own following the Blues’ goalless draw against Coventry City.
The Blues faced the unusual prospect of playing away from home at St Andrews, but the game itself took a more usual approach with Birmingham continuing their struggles for goals in the final third. The latest blank in front of goal means they have scored just nine goals in their opening 12 league matches.
One player who has struggled on the goal front so far this term is Jutkiewicz, and the forward has now registered just one goal in ten Championship appearances for the Blues this campaign. That is down to a mixture of lack of confidence and lack of service in the final third for the target man.
The Blues did create chances for him against Coventry but the forward failed to take any of them missing three big chances, one of which was well kept out by Marko Marosi and the other two he failed to find the target hitting the woodwork and putting another chance wide.

The 31-year-old also struggled in possession losing the ball 13 times and maintaining a passing accuracy of just 53% (Sofascore). That shows how much he is beginning to struggle up front on his own for Birmingham this season with limited support in and around him at times.
Many Birmingham fans have been suggesting he needs to be rested for the next few games, or at least paired with another forward.
Here then, we take a look at some of the best responses from Birmingham fans to his performance on social media…
Hogan start and Juke on for the last half hour instead and we win that, and that's they way it should be from here on out #BCFC

I'm pretty certain that we have better players than what they're showing out there right now. Held back by having to keep the Karanka shape? When we've had a go we actually look OK. The Juke debate continues, did himself no favours tonight! #BCFC #KRO

Not happy with that, massive missed opportunity for three points.
Only 1 sub with all our creative players on the bench. Juke having a mare, but Karanka still keeps him on.
Hope I’m proved wrong but very disappointed with Karanka’s in game management currently. #bcfc

Juke should’ve had a hat trick tonight #BCFC

Love the bloke and can’t fault him for everything he’s done for us but Jutkiewicz cannot play on his own up front. It’s Hogan, Leko or nobody. We’re never going to see the best of players like Sanchez and Bela if we continue to lump the ball forward at every opportunity #bcfc

Jutkiewicz is finished should have had a hattrick, can't believe we made 1 sub

Hogan or Leko gotta be starting Tuesday. Juke needs a bit of a rest #bcfc
