‘Finished,’ ‘having a mare’ – Many Birmingham City fans fume over player who lost possession 13 times vs Coventry

A number of Birmingham City fans have been bemoaning Aitor Karanka’s decision to continue playing Lukas Jutkiewicz up front on his own following the Blues’ goalless draw against Coventry City.

The Blues faced the unusual prospect of playing away from home at St Andrews, but the game itself took a more usual approach with Birmingham continuing their struggles for goals in the final third. The latest blank in front of goal means they have scored just nine goals in their opening 12 league matches.

One player who has struggled on the goal front so far this term is Jutkiewicz, and the forward has now registered just one goal in ten Championship appearances for the Blues this campaign. That is down to a mixture of lack of confidence and lack of service in the final third for the target man.

The Blues did create chances for him against Coventry but the forward failed to take any of them missing three big chances, one of which was well kept out by Marko Marosi and the other two he failed to find the target hitting the woodwork and putting another chance wide.
