Sheffield Wednesday's financial problems could force them to sell two key players this summer, according to reports.

The Yorkshire Post reports that Financial Fair Play restrictions could force Sheffield Wednesday into selling Keiren Westwood and Fernando Forestieri this summer.

Westwood is a target for Stoke City, who are considering the former Republic of Ireland international as a replacement for Jack Butland if the England star departs.

Championship side West Bromwich Albion and Premier League duo Cardiff City and Southampton are also said to be keen on the 33-year-old, who was recently omitted from the pre-season friendly against Mansfield Town.

Owls boss Jos Luhukay cited a knee injury but Westwood has hit back, claiming he is fit to play but was not selected.

Forestieri could also depart after hitting five goals in 10 games during an injury-hit campaign at Hillsborough last season.

The Italian forward has scored 32 goals in three seasons with Sheffield Wednesday.

The Verdict

While losing these two players is not ideal, it could be worse for the Owls.

Luckily, if Westwood departs, Sheffield Wednesday have two top young goalkeepers in Joe Wildsmith and Cameron Dawson to fill in.

And Forestieri missed most of last season anyway so they know how to deal without the versatile forward.
