Financial details emerge as Cardiff City fail with offer for transfer target

Cardiff City failed with an offer of just £250,000 for Crewe Alexandra right-back Perry Ng.

The 24-year-old has been a standout performer for the Railwaymen over the past few seasons, but with his contract expiring in the summer, a move this month feels inevitable.

The Bluebirds had hoped to capitalise on that situation by picking Ng up on the cheap, however the Sky Sports Transfer Centre (09:05) has revealed that the Welsh side have had an initial offer of £250,000 plus add-ons turned down by Crewe.

It remains to be seen whether Cardiff go back in with a bigger bid for the player, who Neil Harris has admitted the club have been monitoring.

Crewe are in a vulnerable situation with Ng’s contract situation, as they know he can walk away in the summer.

However, they also know that Cardiff are in desperate need of a right-back this month, with that becoming something of a problem position for Harris.

Jordi Osei-Tutu has missed much of the campaign through injury having joined from Arsenal in the previous window.

Quiz: Do Cardiff City and Swansea City have these 10 things in common?

Both clubs have played in the Premier League in the past five years.

The verdict

You have to say that this isn’t the best offer from Cardiff for a player with such potential, and you can see why Crewe have rejected it.

Whilst you can understand that the Championship side don’t want to make a significant bid for a player that is out of contract in the summer, it must frustrate the fans.

There’s a deal to be done here, and Ng would certainly improve the Cardiff team. So, they will hope to find an agreement quickly, because the longer it drags on, the more chance of rival interest emerging.
