New Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has named his starting line XI for the trip to face Wycombe Wanderers, which has drawn an excited response from many Black Cats fans.

Goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin has been dropped, with Lee Burge making his first League One start of the season, while Duncan Watmore is also making his first league start with Lynden Gooch dropping to the bench.

Denver Hume also returns to the side as the Black Cats look for their first League One clean sheet of the season.

Sunderland’s strikers have struggled for form this season, but Charlie Wyke gets the nod in Parkinson’s first game in charge, with both Will Grigg and Marc McNulty on the bench.

The North East club did not play during the international break and have slipped down to ninth in the table but a win could see them return to the play-off places.

Parkinson’s side look set for a tough test, however, as they travel to Adams Park to face Wycombe, who sit second in League One.

The new boss’ first starting XI has been well received by large parts of the Stadium of Light faithful and many supporters have taken to Twitter to express their excitement.
