Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton is willing to take a pay cut to remain at the club, according to The Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [Friday 8th June, 18:39].

The Villains had hoped to tie Hutton down to a new deal shortly after their play-off final against Fulham - which they lost 1-0 - but revelations about their dire financial state have meant that cash-strapped Villa are struggling to fund any bits of transfer business.

Due to their financial woes, they are being forced to consider selling prize assets like Jonathan Kodjia and Jack Grealish and it is all doom and gloom at the club at the moment.

But Hutton has given them some light by indicating that he is willing to lower his £15k-per-week pay packet to remain at Villa Park as he is settled in the West Midlands area with a young family.

The 33-year-old's future is in the balance but he has not given up hope of earning a new contract.

The Verdict

Hutton seems genuinely committed to the club and Aston Villa need to stop messing him around and tie him down to a new deal.

If he is willing to take a pay cut, then what are they waiting for? They won't have any players otherwise.

The alternative for Hutton is to move to West Brom as he would not need to relocate and the Baggies could offer him playing time.
