Barnsley have confirmed the signing of midfielder Kenny Dougall from Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam on an initial two-year deal.

In a statement on the Barnsley official website, the Tykes announced that the 25-year-old had put pen to paper on a two-year deal, with the option of a further year, for an undisclosed fee.

Dougall is Barnsley’s first signing in this summer’s transfer window, and will slot nicely into their centre of midfield this coming season.

The former Australian Under-23 international has been a long awaited arrival at Oakwell, with the Barnsley fans and manager, Daniel Stendel, delighted at the signing.

Stendel stated: “After meeting with Kenny I am really happy he’s joined the squad. His personality and determination stood out to me from a mile and he’s the type of player we need at Barnsley. This squad is talented, we just needed to add something extra and I know Kenny can be the useful help we need in the midfield.

"We know his qualities at intercepting the ball and pressing the opposition, as well as his positional awareness to protect our defence. Both in his personality and ability suit us, so I’m looking forward to him joining the squad.”

Barnsley fans took to Twitter to show their joy over the signing of Kenny Dougall.
