Filip Benkovic has stated that the biggest reason he chose Bristol City was to have a challenge for the season.

The defender joined on loan from Premier League side Leicester City on deadline day, and is hoping to help the Robins achieve what would be a remarkable promotion to the top division.

He is primarily a centre-back and is highly-rated to go and become of the one of the best in the division. At just 22-years-old, he needs game time in order to continue to develop, and he'll get that under Lee Johnson at Bristol City.

Benkovic has expressed that the biggest reason he chose to join the Robins for the rest of the campaign was because he wanted the challenge to achieve something big at Bristol City.

Speaking to Bristol Live, Benkovic said: "The biggest reason was to have a big challenge for this season. I know the club wants to do something big, so I want to try and help achieve that."

The Verdict

It's quite refreshing for a club to put up a loan player to the press and then to him here speak so openly about why he joined.

Benkovic has the qualities to be a real asset to the side, and there's absolutely no reason whatsoever why he can't be a pivotal part of whether they are promoted or not.

He will feel unfortunate that Leicester haven't even had any slight niggles otherwise you'd think he'd be in with a chance of impressing in the first-team.

It's set to be a really interesting ending to the season, and he'll hope he can play a key part in that.
