Aston Villa have underwhelmed dramatically after their relegation back into the second tier and Steve Bruce has plenty of work to do over the coming months if they’re to get back to their best.

The Midlanders were widely expected to storm the division alongside Newcastle United this season but it really hasn’t happened and a manager later, things still aren’t going all their way.

Steve Bruce has taken over from Roberto Di Matteo and after a much-needed win over Derby County last week, the pressure has somewhat subsided.

But there’s still work to do and the need to improve a squad that really hasn’t gelled together looks more obvious by the week.

There is still talent in the Villa ranks though and if the team are to mount a reputable push for promotion next season, keeping certain players at Villa Park is pivotal.

So with that in mind, here’s TWO Aston Villa stars Bruce must hold onto at the end of the season…

Jonathan Kodjia

You’d have to wonder just how bad it might’ve been for Aston Villa had they not signed Jonathan Kodjia this summer from Bristol City.

The forward has single-handedly carried the team at times this campaign and whilst it’s not been his most prolific season to date, his goals have certainly helped Villa into the position they are currently in.

He’s a man that can score goals and carries a serious physical presence with him too but Villa must keep hold of him come the end of the campaign. If there’s anyone to really lead a promotion push, it’s him.

Andre Green

We’ve seen some sparkling talent come through the Villa academy over the years and the next forward being tipped for big things is young Andre Green.

He’s an explosive winger with bags of pace and having seriously impressed for the reserve side, he’ss seen plenty of action from the bench this season.

He’s got time to continue his development but Villa really shouldn’t let him go without a fight, if there is interest this summer.

He could become a very special player indeed.
