Queens Park Rangers find themselves in the lower reaches of the Championship but should just about have enough to keep themselves above the bottom three.

However, there are no guarantees at this stage and while Ian Holloway has not brought in a single new face so far this January, there are players out there who can make the difference to the club's survival bid.

Holloway is paying the price for years of financial mismanagement at Loftus Road, which spanned over multiple promotions and relegations.

We all know that Rangers paid out far too much money to players who were over the hill and didn't care about the club and that is affecting the budget that Holloway has available to him now.

The focus has to be on hungry players with a point to prove and something different to add to the party, as QPR search for that little something extra to make the difference in the battle to beat the drop.

We take a look at some last minute business they should be doing...

Danny Newton

QPR are in a weaker position, both in terms of the league and financially, than many of their Championship rivals so looking down the leagues for options might be the way to go.

One that stands out a mile is Stevenage striker Danny Newton, who is the biggest success story to come out of the Jamie Vardy Academy, which gives a chance to non-league players to go up the leagues like the Leicester and England man has.

Vardy himself is proof that goalscoring is a skill that can translate up the divisions and QPR would not find anyone hungrier to make their mark and prove they belong at that level than Newton.

He has 11 goals in all competitions so far this season, and QPR's competition for his signature looks like it consists of fellow Championship strugglers Barnsley and League One relegation battlers Milton Keynes.

This one is one that can get done at a reasonable price as well.

Anthony Pilkington

Pilkington is an experienced and hard-working Championship performer who has found himself on the fringes of former QPR boss Neil Warnock's Cardiff City side this season.

He has come into the fold in recent weeks and impressed - which shows he is sharp and ready to make an impact - but I still think Warnock would listen to offers for him.

He feels like the kind of player that Holloway could reinvigorate and he can play in a number of positions, which is another string to his bow.

At 29, his transfer fee shouldn't be ridiculous and if I were Holloway, I would definitely be testing the water on this one before the end of the transfer window.
