Ipswich Town are just about clinging on to the chasing play-off pack but a massive second half to the season is needed if Mick McCarthy’s men are to make the top six.

In fairness, that would be a huge overachievement for the Tractor Boys but whilst the gap remains at six points, there’s always hope.

However, if there is any chance of progressing up the league, you would imagine that McCarthy needs to dip into the market before the deadline.

Whilst he has been busy this month, with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Stephen Gleeson among those to arrive at Portman Road, the former Wolves boss has once again been restricted, relying on loans and free transfers.

Although, with David McGoldrick out of contract in the summer and expected to depart for up to £1m, that might present McCarthy with some funds to play with.

Here are two targets for the Tractor Boys in the next few days....

Ben Marshall

The Wolves winger is expected to leave and would be available for around £1.5m but a loan deal could materialise if Ipswich won’t pay that.

The former Blackburn man has proven himself to be very capable at this level over the years and has real quality on the ball.

McCarthy hasn’t really got anyone who has nailed down a position on the right and often ends up utilising a more forward thinking player there, such as Martyn Waghorn.

However, Marshall is a natural winger and with McGoldrick sure to be moving on, Waghorn will be needed in the centre.

Competition will be fierce for Marshall but it’s hard to see any side above Ipswich in the table taking the 26-year old so you can't rule it out.

Adlene Guedioura

McCarthy knows all about the Algerian international having given him his big break in English football when he signed for Premier League Wolves from Charleroi.

Since then, Guedioura has gone on to have a decent career although he is now struggling for game time at Middlesbrough and a move seems inevitable.

Ipswich have been suggested as one of the clubs interested in the 32-year old and it would make a lot of sense.

The former Palace man brings an excitement and energy to the game that is often missing from the Tractor Boys who are too one-dimensional and direct.

Guedioura would be easily available and could provide a spark that Ipswich so often lack.
