Cardiff City have had a very positive January so far as Neil Warnock looks to beef up his squad for a big promotion push towards the end of the season.

The Bluebirds endured a very tough festive period, losing four games in eight days over Christmas but look to have steadied the ship in recent weeks.

A 4-0 demolition of Sunderland was followed up by a well-earned point at Hillsborough last time out and it leaves Cardiff just one point behind the automatic promotion spot.

As well as that, the arrivals of Marko Grujic and Yannic Wildschut have provided more optimism around the place as Warnock looks to add yet another promotion to his CV.

However, he will still want to bring in a bit more quality and we look at two players the Welsh side could add to help secure their return to the top flight.

David McGoldrick

The Ipswich Town forward might not be the most glamorous name out there, nor the sort of big-money move that excites fans, but he could be very effective for the team.

Given Kenneth Zohore has returned to full fitness, the main striker role is covered unless injury hits, but McGoldrick would be capable back-up.

The Irish international is experienced, knows the Championship and is available as his contract expires in the summer.

More importantly, he brings something different to the Bluebirds. As well as cover for Zohore, the hardworking McGoldrick can operate deeper and out wide.

That versatility could be key for the run in and for around £1m it’s a no-brainer to bring in a good Championship attacker.

Will Vaulks

The arrival of Marko Grujic has eased the need for a new central midfielder, but there’s no doubt that another body would be welcome and Vaullks could be that man.

Cardiff, along with Scottish giants Rangers, have already been linked with the Rotherham midfielder who would bring a real competitiveness and determination to the midfield.

Having spent just one season in the Championship before, Vaulks will be desperate to get back into the second tier.

Warnock has been known over the years for getting players from the lower leagues and taking their game up a few levels and Vaulks could be the latest to benefit from the experienced manager.

As the importance of each game grows every week, injuries and suspensions can play a big part, so having another midfielder would ease any worries fans may have.
