After a dismal start to the season, Brentford are now showing why many observers felt the Bees could be dark horses for promotion this season.

Only leaders Wolves have beaten Dean Smith’s side in the league since mid-December and they are well positioned to make a real late charge for the play-offs.

Whilst there is serious competition for those four places, Brentford are playing with a real style and class that will fill everyone connected to the club with confidence for the remainder of the campaign.

However, the addition of a few new signings would also help.

One area that Brentford could do with strengthening is up front, as the Bees regularly create chances but sometimes lack a player with that killer instinct in the box.

Lasse Vibe has scored seven league goals this season, whilst Neal Maupay has six, but an addition or two in the final third could share the workload and make all the difference come May.

Here we look at two players who should move to Griffin Park before the window shuts.

Chris Martin

The Derby striker is available and attracting interest from a host of Championship clubs and whilst Brentford aren’t one of those mentioned, he would be perfect for the Bees.

Martin is a real physical presence who would give Smith’s side a different threat. At times, when the intricate play isn’t working, it can be useful to go more direct and hit early crosses into the box.

That doesn’t suit Vibe, but it would suit Martin and he would certainly have helped the Bees at times earlier in the season.

As well as that, the Scotland international is decent on the ball and could be perfect in bringing the likes of Sergi Canos and Ollie Watkins into the game with his hold-up ability.

Brentford should certainly be a more attractive proposition to the striker when you consider some of the clubs he has been linked with too.

Jack Marriott

Alternatively, or perhaps as well as, the Bees could make a move for Peterborough’s Jack Marriott who is scoring for fun in League One.

Brentford have often gone to the lower leagues to find a few gems and whilst the fee for the 23-year old is hefty at £6m, it could be a shrewd investment.

If Marriott continues to progress and improve it could look like a bargain in a few years and that’s what Brentford will have to weigh up.

It would be out of their price range normally but sometimes you have to make exceptions. Marriott could score the goals that take the Londoners up which would pay back that fee straight away.
