Birmingham City will be hoping for a busy end to the month in order to bring in the players that Steve Cotterill needs to preserve their Championship status.

Despite picking up seven points from their last four games, Blues are second from bottom although it is extremely tight at the foot of the table.

After a big summer spend that saw plenty of new arrivals, many of who haven’t performed, Blues haven’t been able to splash the cash this month.

In fact, it has been a very quiet window for Cotterill but that could change.

Even though they are stuck in the relegation zone, the foundations are there for Blues to push up the table.

They boast several defenders who have proven themselves at this level, whilst David Stockdale was Brighton’s goalkeeper last year as they won promotion.

And, in fairness it has been the other end of the pitch where the main concerns are.

Birmingham have scored an embarrassing 16 goals in 28 games this season, so it’s clear to see where the additions need to come in the next few days.

Here we identify two players that should be brought to St. Andrew’s.

Devante Cole

Blues have been linked with the Fleetwood striker, who is the son of Manchester United legend Andrew, and he would be the ideal signing.

Cole has great pace, movement and is calm in front of goal – exactly what Birmingham need.

What’s more, the 22-year old is out of contract in the summer so would be available at a cut-price fee.

Despite their struggles in front of goal, there are still creative midfielders at Birmingham such as Jota, Che Adams and even Jacques Maghoma.

Cole’s ability to stretch defences should benefit those players and also allow him to get opportunities.

Adlene Guedioura

Many fans may have wondered what happened to the Algeria midfielder but he is still at Middlesbrough although he barely gets a chance.

Tony Pulis did use the former Wolves man on New Year’s Day but he hasn’t made the match day squad for the new Boro boss since and a move seems inevitable when you look at the strength in depth Boro have in midfield.

But, he would be perfect at Birmingham.

Guedioura is unpredictable, exciting and energetic, all qualities Blues are lacking in the middle of the park currently.

He would look to drive forward and can commit defenders which would give Cotterill’s side more of a cutting edge in the final third.
