The defender was appointed as the club's new skipper yesterday by new boss Neil McDonald with goalkeeper Colin Doyle being announced as the club's vice-captain.

Blackpool finished rock bottom in the Championship last season in what was an abysmal season both on and off the pitch, so the Tangerines will undoubtedly be hoping for a considerably better 2015/16 campaign.

Having only played six times for the Tangerines the appointment did come as a bit of a shock to some people but a high turnover in the playing staff has meant that Ferguson is remarkably one of the more experienced members of the squad.

The Sunderland-born left-back is happy with how the close season as gone and is now looking for Pool to put the troubles of last season in the past.

Ferguson told the Blackpool Gazette: "Compared to last season the squad is totally different.

"My aim is to get promoted and why not win the league?

"We have a good group of lads here so I hope we can concentrate on the good things and try to set aside the bad."

Neil McDonald faces an incredibly tough task of putting a squad together and making it work due to the such high turnover of staff, but if the club can remain in League One, or even push for a top half spot in the league, then it should be deemed a successful season for the Seasiders.
