Sunderland fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Plymouth Argyle at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday evening.
The Black Cats fell behind after just 11 minutes in this one, as Adam Lewis opened the scoring. But they responded through Aiden O’Brien shortly after half-time, as he equalised.
But Plymouth edged back in front just five minutes later, as Joe Edwards scored what proved to be the winner on the night.
Sunderland boss Lee Johnson admitted in a post-match press conference that his side were the better team throughout, and statistically ‘won the game’, apart from scoring more goals than their opponents.
The defeat to Argyle means that Sunderland are now sat ninth in the League One table, and find themselves three points adrift of the play-off positions.
Plenty of the Stadium of Light faithful took to social media to vent their frustrations at Johnson’s after his assessment of the performance.

He watched a different game, zero quality or pace throughout the team bar Diamond. Central Midfield…non existent including Winchester. Buy some better players in the next 10 days, and i dont mean the striker from Crawley…transfers under Donald have let the club down, freebies

Feel for the bloke he basically needs a full squad of his own players because the ones we have now aren’t fit to wear the shirt https://t.co/sivtVhIvAr

He sounds like I feel. Interesting reading the negative comments against him. The players are not good enough, it really is that simple. We have a mid table L1 set of players.

We need to give this guy time, one may be even two seasons. Enough time to get his own players in because at the moment it is not his fault, these players are just bang average league one players at best and even the likes of Guardiola or Klopp could not do anything with them

Feel sorry for him. To even have us in and around 6th with that team is hard enough

Given mcgeady and Macfadzean came off (CM replaced by Cm at lb) and both their goals came from the left that’s got to be who he’s on about.
