Speaking in his latest column in the Nottingham Post, former Nottingham Forest player Garry Birtles has insisted that Zach Clough can still have a future at the City Ground.

The 24-year-old has been completely frozen out under Sabri Lamouchi, and was expected to join the likes of Jason Cummings, Liam Bridcutt and Daryl Murphy in leaving the club in the summer transfer window.

The attacking midfielder signed for Forest from Bolton Wanderers in 2017, scoring 21 goals in 59 league games for the Trotters and establishing himself as one of the best players in League One before his move to the East Midlands.

But the attacker has since fallen completely out of favour on Trentside, failing to make a single appearance for the Reds since January 2018. He has spent time on loan with Bolton and Rochdale, but has flattered to deceive whilst away from the City Ground.

But Birtles still believes that Clough can have a future at Forest, saying in his latest column: "It’s up to him to keep his head down in training and do his level best to try and show Sabri Lamouchi that he still has something to offer, that his effort, commitment and desire remain high.

"Be the first into training, the last to leave, give your level best and hope that the Frenchman sees that and gives you a chance, and if he does, make sure you grasp it with both hands."

With the likes of Joao Carvalho and Tiago Silva both way ahead of Clough in the pecking order, we take a look at what Forest fans have made of Birtles' recent comments...
