The opening five games of the season have been and gone bringing us some pleasant and some unpleasant surprises on the way. It seemed that the majority of results this week were simply unpredictable in every sense of the word. Streaks ended and new unbeaten runs begun, but who heads our power rankings?

Number 10- Brighton- last week-9 Change- +1

After an impressive display last week, the Seagulls played host to Charlton Athletic hoping to end their unbeaten run. However it was Brighton who almost lost their two game unbeaten run when Igor Vetokele put Charlton 2-1 ahead in the 75th minute having already scored once. But a 90'th minute header from defender Lewis Dunk saved Brighton a point and put them thirteenth in the table. The home side had the majority of possession and dominated the shot count. Perhaps they deserved three points, but it seems there is only so much you can do against a high flying Igor Vetokele.

Number 9- Derby- last week- 3 Change - 6

Derby County dropped their first home points of the season as Christophe Berra scored the equaliser for Ipswich Town. It was his third goal in is as many matches against a Derby side that seemed to have resurfacing problems that we have already discussed. Once Ipswich equalised, the team almost stopped playing and arguably cost them another three points. The team also suffered an injury but the game was by no means consistent and the second half certainly showed that.

Number 8- Millwall – last week- N/A Change -N/A

Making their re-appearance inside the top 10, Millwall further added to Blackpool's troubles with a 2-1 home victory. It was very close, the team made some dreadful errors that allowed Blackpool back into the game through a tidy finish from Ranger. It was a win, but it wasn't a convincing one from Holloway's men but having lost just one game in their opening five, it shouldn't have too much of a negative impact.

Number 7- Brentford- last week-N/A Change N/A

A new appearance in our Power Rankings, Brentford secured their second win of the season against Rotherham at the weekend. Nick Proschwitz scored a 90th minute nail in the coffin to add to a great team performance. The team looked very organised but still a little weak in areas. Goalkeeper Button had a standout performance and arguably kept them ahead with some tremendous saves. This win however will give the team a big boost and certainly motivate them to iron out the lingering issues.

Number 6- Charlton- last week- 8 Change +2

Two goals from star of the summer Igor Vetokele should have gifted Charlton yet another victory but instead that was snatched away when Lewis Dunk scored a Brighton equaliser in the 90th minute. Charlton now sit five games undefeated, a dream start for the new manager considering other teams who have bought in even more signings are struggling. The recent signing of Bulot from Standard Liege will add to the squad's depth in their next game. Only Charlton and league leaders Forest remain unbeaten after five games, a true testament to the consistency installed within the valley.

Number 5- Norwich- last week 4 Change -1

Norwich despite being in top form recently had to settle for a draw against Grabban's former club. The summer signing Lewis Grabban showed the Norwich fans he's devoted to Carrow Road by putting them ahead of his former side. Coming off of two defeats, Bournemouth were desperate to set the record straight and get some points on the board. Norwich are now five games undefeated in all competitions and making big strides in the charge to achieve Premier League football just one season after the drop.

Number 4- Wigan- last week N/A Change N/A

Wigan winger Callum McManaman's first-half brace guided Wigan to a more than easy 4-0 against Birmingham. They hadn't had the best start to the season until recently but with two wins on the bounce their season seems to be taking a turn for the better. A perfect way to build on the Blackpool game, the team were deadly in front of goal and converted chances. Uwe Rosler's Wigan have now won consecutive home games setting them up perfectly going into the two week break.

Number 3- Wolves- Last week 6 Change +3

The third win in a row came in emphatic fashion for Jackett's men against a rumbled Blackburn side. The recently promoted Wolves side have had a great start to the campaign but I don't think many predicted more than a draw against high flyers and usually consistent Blackburn Rovers. It was the fifth time in a row that Wolves had names the same starting 11 but you can see why. Two goals form Sako and another from Dicko made it a comfortable 3-1 home victory. Blackburn still played very well, they kept a lot of the ball and created chances but it was Wolves who took all three points on the day.

Number 2- Nottingham Forest – last week 1 Change -1

Forest ensured that they would go into the international break at the top of the league following a narrow 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Sheffield Wednesday. Henri Lansbury fired home a header that gave Stuart Pearce's side a lead that they would never lose. They have now won six out of their last seven in all competitions. However there are various areas of the game that need improving. As said previously, this Forest side is performing fantastically but it is wobbly. There are times when they look like a Premier league team and others when they look like mid table Championship side. To keep this run going they need to try and rectify those errors. But either way, a perfect start to the season for Stuart Pearce and Forest are still a team to be feared.

Number 1-Watford- last week 2 Change +1

The highest scoring team in the league kept that title this weekend with a 4-2 home victory over Huddersfield. Despite being reduced to 10 men, the Hornets fought on to an impressive victory. Two goals from Almen Abdi including a late curler secured Watford's win. The team seemed committed and dangerous throughout. Gomes failed to keep out Bunn's goal coming from a cross which definitely raised a few eyebrows over Watford's defence. But within ten minutes all of the focus was down at the other end of the pitch. Offensively, Watford look absolutely lethal. The strike partnership is working wonders and the midfield look extremely creative. It is exactly what Watford fans dreamed of once they had heard that the dynamic strike duo had reformed. Defensively however there may be some extra minutes on the training ground needed before facing bogey team and currently unbeaten Charlton.
