The first round of mid week fixtures have been and gone and there were definitely some talking points. Only five teams in the league remain unbeaten as we head in to game day number 5. But how did the mid week games effect our power rankings?

Number 10- Derby- last week: 10 Change +/- 0

For the third week running, Derby County cling on to the final top 10 spot following a 3-2 loss to Charlton. Despite the loss, the team retained the majority of possession and had more shots. Charlton were playing their finest Football all season and made it incredibly difficult for Ward to score one let alone two goals. An uncharacteristic mistake from young keeper Nick Pope put Derby within reach in the 85th minute but that was the end of their charge. The reason they retain their number 10 spot yet again is because it wasn't that Derby played badly. In fact, they played very very well. It just seemed that Charlton played with more fire.

Number 9- Middlesbrough- last week- N/A Change +/-0

Enrique Garcia scored an emphatic winner as Middlesbrough mounted a comeback charge on winless Bolton on Tuesday night. A penalty sent Bolton in front but the teamwork of the reds was just too much for Bolton. They never gave up and played with spirit. Still adjusting to life in the Championship "Kike" Garcia has full support of his team mates and it was evident during the away fixture. He was a constant threat as a target man with cohesion in the midfield being at a peak. Now with two wins out of three, Boro are up to eighth as we head in to game 4.

Number 8- Watford- last week- 8 Change +/-0

Another team retaining their spot are Watford this week. The Hornets paid a visit to Rotherham and were keen to recover after the controversial decision and downwards spiral of play witnessed on Saturday. The team did just that as they scored two goals and claimed all three points to send them back up to 7th. However there seems to still be controversy surrounding the team. After Lloyd Dyer slotted home the goal to give his team the lead, he seemed to sprint over to the bench and hurl abuse at manager Beppe Sannino. Whilst what was said remains unclear, it certainly was not in good heart and it makes you question the morale in the Watford camp and if there are issues behind closed doors. However, a recovery was needed and a 2-0 win away from home will raise spirits a little as Watford edge closer to their form when the season kicked off.

Number 7- Bournemouth- last week- 1 Change - 6

A first loss of the season for Bournemouth sees them sink down to a lonely seventh in the power rankings and fifth in the league table. Although they will be keen to recover from the 2-1 defeat to new leaders Nottingham Forest, it's not all doom and gloom. Bournemouth had many clear cut chances and played brilliantly. If they play to that standard week in and week out, they will be a very difficult team to beat. The Cherries simply dominated the first half, but two headers in almost as many minutes from Assombalonga and Fryatt ensured that Forest are the team that stay unbeaten in this one. Callum Wilson continued to impress by netting Bournemouth's only goal. A disappointing result, with a lot of positives to take from it.

Number 6- Sheffield Wednesday- last week- 9 Change +3

It seems we may have jinxed Wednesday when in week 2's rankings we said that they have "Derby disease", being unable to score in 180 minutes of Football. Chris Maguire broke the trend on his 50th appearance for the club with a scorching free kick just before the 60th minute. However, Sheffield were to be denied all three points by Gueye slotted a shot home in the 90th minute. Two draws and a win keep Sheffield unbeaten and move them up the rankings into a much safer position. But after conceding with just a few seconds to go, the fans will feel like they have lost that game and morale will be low going into the weekend.

Number 5- Millwall- last week 2 Change -3

Two weeks out of three Millwall have sat in fifth spot, and following what was a very relieving draw against our sixth placed team, they can't be too disappointed as they sit third in the league, also unbeaten. The reason they're not higher is due to how late the goal came. The first half was by no means a dominating display. It was scruffy, un-coordinated and it looked like the Lions were trying way too hard. When Ricardo Fuller and goalscorer Gueye came on, the side seemed to settle down and play much more efficiently. A missed penalty however re confirmed the doubts of Manager Holloway and what could be seen as a "lucky" goal in the closing stages won't lift them all that much.

Number 4- Norwich- last week 6 Change +2

The rise of the Canaries continues as Norwich sailed to a victory at Carrow Road over Blackburn. Ending what would have been 15 league games unbeaten streak. Blackburn are one of the most consistent teams in the league without a shadow of a doubt and that showed after Tom Cairney put Blackburn ahead just 49 seconds in. But an early equaliser followed by the nail in the coffin by summer signing Lewis Grabban saw a deserved victory for Norwich. Two goals in the final three minutes saw Rovers collapse defensively in the final third. Two controversial penalty decisions linger at Carrow Road and Blackburn will be extremely disappointed to not walk away with a single point. The offensive side of the game was perhaps even more inconsistent for Bolton who hit just 25% of their shots on target whereas Norwich hit 11/17. With two wins in a row, Norwich look strong going into this weekend.

Number 3- Cardiff- Last week 4 Change +1

The unbeaten run continues for Cardiff City with a 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic. Whilst it wasn't the highest scoring game, it was enough to propel Cardiff to second in the league. Striker Nicky Maynard, who had a loan spell at the losing side last year, netted the only goal of the game with a low driven finish. It wasn't a "pretty" game of Football and Cardiff played far from what we know they're capable of. With new signings still on the way and a slightly unconvincing win against Wigan, it's enough to sit them tied for the lead at the top of the table. Right now it's just a case of the players not spending enough time together due to all of the new arrivals and therefore not bonding on the pitch. If they can win now, then once the new signings get settled down they could be extremely dominant.

Number 2- Charlton- last week 7 Change +4

Bob Peeters knew exactly where to run this time when Igor Vetokele slotted home Charlton's third and winning goal against Derby on Tuesday as Charlton do some metaphorical running of their own in the way of good form. Undefeated in three league games now, this is definitely the biggest result of the season so far. Derby were sensational last season and have struggled to find that same form in the early stages of 2014. A double from Ward kept Derby within reach but it was not enough to defeat the Addicks. 6 goals in 3 games for Charlton seems like a complete turnaround for the team who struggled so badly to find the back of the net last year. Three new signings found it on tuesday and look to do the same this Saturday.

Number 1- Nottingham Forest- last week 3 Change +2

A steady rise through the power rankings since week one now sees them at the top of the pile, in more ways than one. Overthrowing powerhouse and previously unbeaten Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest struggled in the first half as Bournemouth piled on the pressure. The away team somehow survived until half-time when manager Pearce changed formation. Forest failed to deal with many of the threats the home team made but most notably the cross from Yann "the man" Kermorgant and with the visitors in a state of panic, it was the ever impressive Wilson who drove the ball into the goal. It seemed that the goal ignited a spark inside the dugout as two quickfire goals in under ten minutes sent Forest into a lead they would hold until the end. It looked like Bournemouth should have brushed Forest aside but they defended excellently to deny numerous chances from the attacking giants. Unbeaten and top of the league are where Nottingham sit currently. But if they struggled to hold on against Bournemouth and Reading can add that same pressure on Saturday, they may not be top for very long.
