It's been a very tight and well contested Sky Bet Championship season this year, with just three points separating the top four.

Every team has a midfield, but there are plenty of roles for a midfield player. You've got more attacking players or more defensive players, some are required to win the ball back, some are played as box to box midfielders, but pretty much every team requires a passer.

But which side has the best passer?

5) Jonathan Hogg

The Huddersfield central midfielder has an 86.9% pass success rate this season.

Hogg signed from Watford in the summer of 2013 after requesting a transfer at Vicarage Road for family reasons. He made his Terriers debut in a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Hogg is fifth in our list

He's been a feature in the Huddersfield side this year having amassed 34 appearances this season. Perhaps his highlight of the season was scoring his first Huddersfield goal, only his second of his career, against Charlton in the League Cup.

4) Scott Golbourne

The former Reading left back has completed 87.2% of his passes this year. He was bought in as part of the recovery operation after Wolves were relegated to League One in 2013 from Barnsley for around £700, 000.

Could Scott Golbourne be heading back to Bristol City?

He's been very impressive for Wolves in their push for the play offs this year and is clearly very accurate with his passes. Aged 27, he's managed to rack up an impressive 276 appearances in his career.

3) Craig Bryson

Craig Bryson has an 87.8% pass accuracy percentage this season.

Despite Derby struggling in recent weeks, they still have a very talented group of players. He was a stand out last year in Derby's recovery under Steve McClaren which was opitimised with his hattrick against rivals Nottingham Forest in a 5-0 win.

Bryson is third in our list

He's again been a regular for the Rams and has made 17 appearances for the Rams this year, but hasn't quite got the goal scoring knack he did last year, where he netted 16 times.

The Scotsman's got the third highest pass success rate this season.

2) Danny Williams

Danny Williams is level with Craig Bryson with 87.8% of passes completed this season.

Williams arrived from Hoffenheim in 2013 under Nigel Adkins and is considered as one of the best players in Readings side this season. He missed the first two months of the season with injury.

Williams is number two in the list

But if you asked Reading fans who their best passer was, they certainly wouldn't say Williams, as he's generally seen as a ball winning midfielder who does the dirty work for the Royals, but it seems he's added another aspect to his game.

1) Simon Dawkins

Again, this is probably a bit of a shock to most fans, but Simon Dawkins has completed a fantastic 88.4% of his passes this season, making him the top passer in the Championship this year.

If you've seen Dawkins play this season, he's probably come off the bench, having come off the bench 16 times this season.

He arrived from Tottenham Hotspur last year and was Steve McClaren's first signing at the club, after a week long trial. He was a regular in the Rams side for the latter part of the season.
