With Leeds United's academy currently grabbing the headlines with the current crop of players playing out of their skins, the likes of Sam Byram, Lewis Cook and Alex Mowatt have drawn huge plaudits from many opposition bosses.

Mowatt has been a revelation for Leeds United

We seem to forget that it's not only Leeds that bring through talented youth players through their ranks who burst into the first team.

In this dawn of Financial Fair Play a talented youngster coming through the ranks is like a new £2 million signing for clubs who can't muster up that much cash for a brand spanking new prospect.

Here's a look at THREE of the top youth prospects in the Championship to surface and equally get some recognition.

Joe Gomez - Charlton

At the ripe age of 17, you wouldn't believe that this player is already heralded as the future of England's defence.

Gomez is an exceptional talent

6'2 and skilled with the ball, this young centre back has burst onto the scene at Charlton after a very impressive role at the European U17's Championship.

His first appearance for the Charlton Under 18's came at the extremely young age of 13 years old. That's some feat for a young scholar to hold his own with players five years his senior.

Now with 16 first team appearances to his name, the future is looking extremely bright for the young Londoner. It's been noted that both Everton and Newcastle have registered their interest in the young centre back who can fill in at right back.

Linked with Newcastle and Everton, this player will surely be extremely happy with his progress, which has now put him in contention with Lewis Cook for the 2015 young scholar awards.

Moses Odubajo - Brentford

This former Leyton Orient youngster chose to sign for Brentford in the summer amid interest from clubs like Tottenham and West Ham. Odubajo is a little older at 21 but has bags of potential.

Odubajo is a highly-rated winger

On the back of a strong season for Leyton Orient, Moses has gone from strength to strength with some very strong performances for the play off outsiders.

37 appearances this season and a very strong team spirit could well see Odubajo occupy a spot in a Premier League side next season, if Brentford finish strongly and win the playoffs. I said maybe!

He's got pace, strength and a very strong technical mind. He's a player any team would welcome in the top 12 and looks like he's get a real chance of making a name for himself in this league.

Patrick Roberts - Fulham

This boy is a wonder kid plain and simple! I haven't seen such a gifted 18-year-old winger in years.

Roberts is a target for Liverpool

Currently rated at #16 in the world by Teamtalk this player has gone from strength to strength. Not getting as much game time as he should for club Fulham, his 18 appearances this season should be double.

They'd probably be nowhere near relegation if they trusted in a few of their young lads.

Roberts first appearance this season was on the opening game of the season when he came on as a substitute and grabbed an assist nearly right away.

With Liverpool hovering over with baited claws it will be interesting to see if Fulham will be able to hold on to the talented England Under 19 international.

That's it for the list and with a new season looking like more players will be brought up from the youth system it will be interesting to see what players will make this list next season.
