It is that time of the season whereby the league tables begin to fall into shape, and we start to get a good idea as to who will be battling for promotion, and who will be fighting to stay in the division.

Neil Lennon's Bolton are odds-on to be playing League One football next season

It is already looking like Aston Villa will be playing Championship football next season, sitting bottom of the Premier League and already ten points adrift of safety and odds-on to go down.

However, the battle to avoid the other two spaces will likely go down to the wire, with Sunderland, Swansea City, and Newcastle United but a few who will be bidding to avoid the drop.

It is no different in the Championship and, after a season of unexpected results, financial crises and managerial departures, FootballLeagueWorld looks over those teams who are fighting to preserve their Sky Bet Championship status...

Bolton Wanderers

Neil Lennon's side are ravaged with financial problems, with the playing staff having gone unpaid for the past couple of months, and with fears of administration looming over the Macron Stadium.

The Trotters are currently bottom of the Championship table, five points off MK Dons, who sit just a place above the bottom three.

The club are overwhelming favourites to lose their struggle with relegation this year.

Charlton Athletic

The Addicks have struggled this season, and are currently 23rd in the league, although only a single point off safety.

Interim manager Karel Fraeye has voiced his displeasure over his side's performances in crucial games this season, and these performances have lead many to believe that they will suffer relegation to the third tier of English football come May.

Rotherham United

Rotherham United occupy the final relegation space at the current time, but face a crucial encounter with a languishing Bolton Wanderers side, which they must win to gain a foothold in the relegation dogfight, on Boxing Day.

They are odds-on with many bookmakers for the drop, but a few good results over the festive period would give them a good foundation going into the second half of the season.

MK Dons

Whilst the Dons remain an outside bet for many, they still are in great danger at suffering relegation in their maiden Championship season.

They sit just one space outside the relegation zone, just one point clear of the drop, and are clearly relegation candidates.
