Jamie Vardy's breakthrough is unique. Not many would have predicted that while playing for F.C. Halifax Town in 2011, that two years later he would become one of the football league's hottest properties at Leicester city. It wasn't easy, though.

Born on 11th January, 1987, in Sheffield, Vardy started his career at Stocksbridge Park Steels. He progressed through the reserves and was noticed for his tremendous speed. Gary Marrow was one of the first to spot his talent, handing him his debut in 2007. Vardy's performances caught the eyes of numerous football league scouts, and he spent a week on trial at Crewe Alexandra.

Eventually, in 2010 Halifax town beat a host of football league clubs, including Rotherham and Sheffield United, to Vardy's signature.

F.C. Halifax Town manager Neil Aspin said at the time:

"He is a talent with pace and the ability to play on either wing or down the middle. He is one who the supporters will like."

I remember watching Vardy play for the first time. It was a surreal moment, his pace electric and his touch was superb. By far the best I'd seen at that level.

But surely no one could of predicted what was going to happen in the next few years. Having scored on his home debut, he went from strength to strength. 27 goals in his first season was a sign of things to come.

Infact, Vardy narrowly missed out on a hat-trick of hat-tricks, only just failing to score a third in a game which ended 2-1 win. His outstanding performances throughout the season merited him  with the player's player of the season, helping Halifax win the Northern Premier League title in the process. He started the 2011/2012 season for them as well, scoring 3 goals in 4 games.

On 26th August, after only one season at Halifax, Vardy was signed by Fleetwood Town. Despite playing at a higher level, Vardy took to the the conference like a duck to water, winning the conference player of the month in November. He scored a remarkable 31 goals in 36 games in his first season, aiding Fleetwood to win the title, and being voted player of the season.

At this point, Vardy was catching the eyes of several higher league clubs. Blackpool had a £700,000 bid turned down in january.

It was Leicester who won his signature on May 17th, 2012. The fee was huge £1.7 million with add ons, a non-league record. After such a hefty fee, Vardy was being scrutinized like never before.

On his eagerly anticipated debut, he scored the last of the four goals.  Despite only scoring four times in his first season, he kept hope. And theres been no stopping him this season. Leicester are currently strolling the league, Vardy the talisman, contributing 13 goals thus far, joint 10th highest in the league.

The story of Jamie Vardy is a great one. Don't get me wrong, I could count on one hand stories that are similar to him. But it goes to show that you should never give up. Ever.
