Norwich City will bid for their second Championship victory of the season on Saturday when they host Harry Redknapp's Birmingham City at Carrow Road.

The Canaries have picked up just one win and one draw from their opening five matches to sit inside the relegation zone heading into the first international break, leaving new boss Daniel Farke was much to ponder over the fortnight's break.

Yet the signing of defender Grant Hanley should give them a much-needed boost defensively against Redknapp's Blues, who were remarkably busy on deadline day in bringing in four new signings, two of which came from fellow second tier side Brentford.

Redknapp's men have also made a stuttering start to the new season and sit just a point ahead of Saturday's opponents in 20th place, although the new recruits are likely to give them a huge boost heading into their clash at Carrow Road this weekend.

Ahead of Saturday's encounter, we at FootballLeagueWorld have taken over as Norwich boss and selected the starting XI that we think can beat Birmingham this weekend...

Angus Gunn

Angus Gunn joined on loan from Premier League giants Manchester City earlier in the summer, six years after he was released by the Canaries as an Academy player.

And with five Championship starts this term, the 21-year-old appears to be Farke’s number one, despite their leaky backline, and as such looks set to retain the gloves for the visit of Birmingham on Saturday.

Ivo Pinto

Norwich have been pretty poor defensively so far this season, yet with 90 minutes in their last outing at Millwall, as well as a starting berth in their victory over Queens Park Rangers, Ivo Pinto may get another opportunity to prove his worth to manager Farke.

The 27-year-old was a regular last season but failed to feature in their first two matches of the current campaign, yet playing Pinto also gives Farke the option of swapping to a back three if needed, as the Portuguese star is also an adept wing-back.

And with no genuine threat to his position at present, Pinto is again likely to start against Birmingham on Saturday.

Grant Hanley

Scotland international Grant Hanley sealed a move to Norwich on the penultimate day of the transfer window, a deal that simply needed to be completed given the Canaries poor start to the campaign.

The 25-year-old is an experienced and accomplished defender at this level following stints at Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers, and could be the man to galvanise and shore up a defence that has conceded 15 goals in all competitions so far this term.

Marcel Franke

It hasn’t been an easy start for the Norwich backline this term, who have conceded 12 goals from their opening five matches, including four away at Millwall last time out.

Yet with Timm Klose unlikely to feature on Saturday, summer signing Marcel Franke looks set to retain his spot in the centre of defence.

The 24-year-old has been unconvincing thus far, but so has the rest of the Norwich backline, yet he could well forge a decent partnership alongside fellow summer signing Hanley at the heart of the Canaries defence.

James Husband

Like the rest of the backline, James Husband has endured a difficult start to the season, and may be running out of chances to impress new boss Farke.

The 23-year-old moved to Carrow Road during the summer and has started all five of their Championship matches, be it as a regular left-back or as a wing-back.

Yet he has still failed to convince during his short stint at the club, although with midfielder Marco Stiepermann the only other alternative, Husband looks set for another opportunity on Saturday.

Harrison Reed

Harrison Reed is one of two loanees at Carrow Road this season, alongside Angus Gunn, and like the Manchester City goalkeeper has played all five of their Championship games so far.

And it’s not difficult to see why as the Southampton midfielder bagged in their 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers back on August 16 before backing that up with an assist in the defeat at Aston Villa, so he is certainly having an impact on proceedings.

And as such he will likely retain his place in the centre of midfield on Saturday.

Alex Tettey

He hasn’t started a Championship match this season and was linked with a move away last month, but with Norwich seriously struggling defensively, bringing Alex Tettey into the centre of midfield might be a wise choice on Saturday.

The 31-year-old has proven himself to be a hugely adept midfielder during his five-year spell at Carrow Road, and his power and overall reading of the game could be hugely beneficial to Norwich on Saturday against a new-look and potentially deadly Birmingham front line.

Thus, the Norway international may well return to the starting line-up on Saturday.

Wes Hoolahan

There is a slight injury concern surrounding Norwich’s Wes Hoolahan, who as a result is a doubt for Republic of Ireland’s clash with Serbia on Tuesday.

And Canaries boss Farke will be hoping it’s nothing too serious, as the 35-year-old remains an integral part of the midfield at Carrow Road, as proven by his tally of two assists already this season.

And alongside seven goals and 11 assists last term, Hoolahan still retains the sort of quality necessary to affect things at this level, and with Alex Pritchard out on the sidelines, the midfielder looks set to again get the nod against Birmingham.

James Maddison

James Maddison returned to Norwich following a loan spell at Aberdeen earlier this year, and appears to be one man Farke is particularly fond of given his four Championship starts thus far.

The 20-year-old has failed to directly contribute to a goal though so is under pressure to perform in the midfield role, although he should retain his place in a midfield three against Birmingham on Saturday.

Josh Murphy

Josh Murphy has slowly but surely played his way into Farke’s starting eleven in recent weeks, having failed to start their first two league games of the campaign.

And with a goal and an assist in the defeat at Aston Villa, as well as a brace in the 4-2 success over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup, the former England youth international is in decent form and will pose a test to the Birmingham defenders on Saturday.

Nelson Oliveira

Speculation was rife over the summer that striker Nelson Oliveira would be leaving Norwich, with Reading reportedly interested in the Portugal international.

And the Canaries will be thrilled that the 26-year-old has remained at Carrow Road beyond the deadline, as there’s little doubt he’s their number one striker having already scored three goals in five league games for the club this term, including the equaliser in the draw at Fulham and the opener in their win over QPR.

And with a goal for Portugal in their 5-1 demolition of the Faroe Islands last week, he’s clearly in excellent form, and will certainly cause the Birmingham backline issues on Saturday.
