Birmingham City have parted ways with manager Garry Monk and many Blues fans are disgusted by the decision.

Blues assistant manager Pep Clotet will serve as caretaker head coach, and the rest of the coaching and backroom staff, including Sean Rush, Darryl Flahavan, Ryan Needs and James Beattie, are due to stay.

Monk joined the club on a three-and-a-half year deal in March 2018 and led City to a 17th-place finish in his first full season in charge despite a nine-point penalty for breaching the EFL's profitability and sustainability rules.

In a statement on the bcfc.co.uk, the club thanked Monk for his efforts and said they "wish him the best for the future".

They added: "The Board of Directors believe this to be in the long term interests of the Club."

"The Board of Directors are hopeful that over time the team can adopt a fresh and modern footballing philosophy, whilst maintaining the Club’s core values."

"It is our intention to drive the Club forward and challenge for promotion."

"The Board of Directors feel that it is vitally important for everybody at the Club to be sharing the same vision and commitment to the plans and processes."

Many Blues fans appear distraught at their manager's departure and have directed their anger at the owners of the club.
