Despite having the small matter of a Championship play-off final to prepare for, Aston Villa manager Dean Smith also has half-an-eye on the future with the Villans lining up a £7.5m move for highly rated Luton Town defender James Justin, as per Football Insider.

James, 21, has had a great season at Luton scoring three goals and making eight assists in 48 appearances in all competitions this season from full-back.

His stock has rose considerably over the course of the season, and it's no surprise to see teams higher up the footballing pyramid start to take note.

With his valuation at £7.5m, is it fair to say Villa would be paying too much for Justin, or is it a fair estimation?

We discuss........

Ben Lang

“I can understand why Luton are asking for this fee, as they need all the funds they can get ahead of their Championship adventure.

“But I don’t think it’s an enormous fee when you consider Justin’s qualities. He is Premier League-bound, for sure.

“He is a superb player who can develop even further, and he would definitely be worth the investment.”

Gary Hutchinson

“Far too much.

“Remember, this is a player with no experience outside the bottom two divisions.

“He’s got bags of potential and has been impressive at a tender age.

“But £7.5m? That’s £5m too much.”

George Brooks

"James has been one of the standout players for Luton this season.

"He clearly has a lot of potential and could be a good signing for Aston Villa.

"However, £7.5million seems like an awful lot for a player without any Championship or Premier League experience.

"I can't see Villa spending that sort of money on a full-back unless they win the play-offs."

Alfie Burns

“It’s hard to say, but the potential is all there.

“You could be looking at a bargain deal in three or four years, but there is an element of risk with it as well.

“However, it is good to see that Villa are considering these younger options rather than bringing in the same old journeymen.”
