Huddersfield Town recorded a vital 2-1 win over Bristol City on Tuesday night as they moved further clear of the relegation zone with just 11 games to go.

Danny Cowley’s men came into this game slipping closer and closer to the relegation zone after a sub-par run of form, meaning they were just two points clear of 22nd-placed Wigan Athletic as they kicked off against the Robins.

A strong first-half performance saw them take the lead through a well-placed Chris Willock strike before Karlan Grant doubled the hosts’ lead just after the hour mark from the penalty spot, following clever work from Emile Smith-Rowe to drive into the box and draw a hefty challenge from Nathan Baker.

Famara Diedhiou added a late consolation goal for the visitors but the Terriers held on for a vital win that now sees them five clear of the Latics as they prepare to face Reading tonight.

Fraizer Campbell returned to the starting lineup following tonsillitis which had kept him out of the defeat to Swansea at the weekend.

His tireless work up front often goes unnoticed as he struggles in front of goal but there was no excusing his golden chance in the first half where all he had to do was direct a cross goalwards but couldn’t get the right connection and the chance went begging.

His efforts up front often divide opinion as he fails to score regularly but provides the side with a focal point and puts in a lot of hard work to tire defenders, leaving gaps for Karlan Grant and co. to exploit.

The topic was put to a Huddersfield Town fans’ Facebook group about his work in a Huddersfield Town shirt, with these responses from fans:

Ben Hamilton “Ran his nuts off tonight. Put the pressure on their back four.”

Jez Crossland “Are you serious? Campbell put a right shift in!”

Can you name where these former Huddersfield players are playing now?

Mark Overend: “Campbell ran his socks off, chased everything down, put himself about loads. Fluffed his lines with the great chance he had but really put a shift in tonight!”

Phillip Ross to Mark Overend: “Not sure he achieved anything though, love his work rate but I thought he offered very little tonight.”

Nick Tracey: “Some just don’t know football, either a wind-up statement or stood in the bar drinking.”

John Waller: “We don't look as confident in possession as most sides we've met this season, we have difficulty keeping possession while trying to work out a pass. The Bristol players were holding onto the ball far longer, and keeping control. But we still managed to win and really should have had three or four more.”

Peter Swallow to John Waller" “Personally, I thought we were in control for 80% of the game and the Bristol team were basically never it. Some of our passing and build-up play was the best I’ve seen this season.”

Andrew Wellings" “Great team performance including Campbell.”

Tony Stead: “Campbell isn’t useless, he’s a menace to opposition defences, he pretty much single-handedly presses opposition defences so they can’t play out from the back as they want to. The Cowleys are picking him for a reason. Trust the Cowleys!”

Mike Shackleton" “Campbell is far from useless, but as a goal threat, he is akin to Patrick Bamford at best.”

Mark Rushworth" “You must be watching a different game to me. Campbell works tirelessly all match.”
