Alex Smithies came back into the Cardiff City team yesterday, and kept a clean sheet in their 0-0 draw with Swansea City in the Championship.

The 29-year-old started in the FA Cup Third Round draw with Carlisle United last weekend, and kept his spot in the team for yesterday’s Welsh derby.

He replaced Neil Etheridge who’s been coming under some scrutiny from fans of late, but Bluebirds boss Neil Harris stated his reasoning for dropping the Filipino was because of ‘transfer speculation’.

Callum Paterson hit the crossbar in the second-half for Cardiff, but neither team could muster a clear-cut chance on goal, and the points were shared.
