A number of Stoke City supporters have been heaping praise on Sam Clucas’ impact during the Potters’ thrilling 4-3 win against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

The Potters headed into the game looking to continue where they left off from their impressive 3-0 win against Reading before the international break. Going forwards, at least they were able to do that with standout displays from Tyrese Campbell and Nick Powell alongside Clucas.

Clucas has been quietly enjoying a promising start to the season with the 30-year-old having now averaged two key passes, one-shot, 1.2 interceptions and 1.2 tackles per game so far this term in his six league appearances (Sofascore). That shows that Michael O’Neill is starting to get the best out of him.

Against Huddersfield, Clucas displayed arguably his most effective performance yet helping out defensively, with two interceptions and three clearances, as well as maintaining an impressive 83% passing accuracy (Sofascore).

While he also came up with the moment of the game picking the ball and dribbling past Huddersfield defenders before firing the ball home.

Many Stoke fans were keen to single him out for praise for that moment, with one supporter even likening it to something you would potentially see from Lionel Messi. While one supporter also suggested that his performances alongside the rest of the forwards put the Potters in a strong position to challenge for promotion this term.
