Bristol City have signed 20-year-old Chelsea left-back Jay Dasilva on a season-long loan.

Dasilva has previously had two loan spells at Charlton Athletic, where he made a total of 40 League One starts.  The England youth international is a three-time winner of the FA Youth Cup with the Blues.

City head coach Lee Johnson told the club website: "I am very excited about what Jay will bring to the squad. He has already achieved a lot for such a young player and we believe in his ability."

So will Dasilva be a hit at Ashton Gate? Is it a good signing?

We discuss.....

Fantastic signing.

DaSilva was on loan at Charlton last season and by all accounts was a signing light at the Valley in what has been a dark period for the club off the pitch.

The Chelsea loanee helped the Addicks get to the play-offs and you could tell he was destined to play at a higher level.

With City’s Joe Bryan now in the Premier League with Fulham, DaSilva gets his well earned Championship chance.

After losing Joe Bryan, Bristol City needed to act quickly to plug the gap at left-back.

Dasilva is a very promising young talent and he could be the perfect short-term replacement for Bryan.

His lack of experience at Championship level will be the only concern but he was one of the best full-backs in League One last season during a loan spell with Charlton Athletic.

Chelsea hold high hopes for Dasilva to become a future first-team star and Bristol City will reap the short-term benefits of his ability.

He's a young an exciting player, so from that point of view, yes. It's nice to see our younger players coming into the Championship rather than heading to Germany.

How he settles is important, there's a lot of young talent in the second tier now and some will do well, others will not. The Robins will hope DaSilva is the former, not the latter.

George Dagless

It's a typical Bristol City signing.

They've lost a key player but replaced him with a hungry young talent that will be looking to kick their career on.

I'd imagine he'll do well for the Robins under Lee Johnson's guidance.
