Sheffield United have confirmed that top scorer Billy Sharp has signed a new two-and-a-half year deal to stay at Bramall Lane.

The 33-year-old, who is also the Blades skipper, has enjoyed an outstanding campaign on an individual level, scoring 22 goals in 30 games.

Only Norwich's Teemu Pukki has more in the Championship and Sharp's excellent form has been a key reason behind the Yorkshire side's automatic promotion push.

And, the club announced on their website this afternoon that he had been rewarded with a new deal that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2021.

Of course, the target for Sharp will be to ensure those final few years are spent as a Premier League player.

That would cap off what has been a remarkable spell for Sharp at his boyhood club, with the striker scoring 86 league goals across the past three and a half seasons.

Therefore, he's understandably a fans favourite and it's fair to say the support were delighted he signed a new deal.
