Birmingham City have announced that goalkeeper Connal Trueman has signed a new contract with the club, which has pleased many Blues fans.

The 23-year-old made his debut at the start of last season and spent the majority of the campaign on the bench as Lee Camp’s back-up.

Trueman’s old deal at St Andrew’s was set to expire next summer but his new contract means extends his stay with the club until the end of June 2022.

He took to Twitter to express his delight at penning a deal with the Blues.

Trueman said he was “buzzing to sign a new contract”, and added: “Time to kick on now, let’s go”.

The six-foot-one shot-stopper joined Birmingham in 2007 and developed through their academy system.

He spent two months on loan at Solihull Moors at the start of the 2017/18 season, making four appearances for the National League side.

Clearly, the Blues see him as a long-term asset, however, he may struggle for game time this season.

New boss Pep Clotet has the experienced duo of Camp and David Stockdale as his other options, and the club are close to signing Real Madrid goalkeeper Moha Ramos, according to Sky Sports News Transfer Centre (31/07 11:24).

Following what has been a turbulent summer for the club, with the exits of Garry Monk and Che Adams, this latest announcement appears to have been well received by many Blues fans.
