Ahead of the Steel City derby on Sunday, Sheffield United fans were given a boost with the news that influential midfielder John Fleck had signed a new long-term deal.

The club confirmed the news on their website, with the 26-year old extending his stay at Bramall Lane until at least until the end of the 2020/21 season.

Fleck has been an ever-present in the league this year with the Blades settling in extremely well on their return to the Championship.

Known for his quality left-foot and ability on the ball, the former Rangers man was pleased to have sorted things.

I'm delighted to get my new contract sorted and it's all happened easily and pretty quickly. I've settled well here and it was an easy decision to make. Obviously I'm very happy,he told the official site.

Similarly, boss Chris Wilder was happy to tie down his key man who instrumental in the club's promotion campaign last time around.

“John is at a fantastic age at 26 and by getting him tied down we should have him during the best years of his career.

The Verdict

It's good news for Blades ahead of the derby with John Fleck signing a new deal. He's been a key figure since joining and is clearly very highly though of by Wilder.

The club have started superbly in the Championship and the player obviously likes the direction the club are heading.

All in all, it's a deal that everyone involved will be pleased with and they can now focus on the massive upcoming games.
